Privacy policy
What FlyFishingSetup.com collects, what it does not, and how to opt out of each of it. Effective 2026.
The short version
We run analytics, we use affiliate links that set cookies from the retailer's network, and we have two forms you can voluntarily fill in. We do not sell personal information, we do not run an advertising network, and we do not require an account to read anything on this site.

Analytics
This site uses Google Analytics 4. It sets cookies and collects aggregate information about how the site is used: which pages are visited, how visitors arrived, approximate geographic region derived from IP address, device and browser type. We use it to decide what to write next and to find pages that are not working. We do not use it to build advertising profiles and we do not run remarketing.
We also record an event when an outbound affiliate link is clicked, capturing the destination URL, which retailer network it belongs to and, where present, the product identifier. That tells us whether a recommendation is being acted on. It is not tied to an identity.
You can opt out of Google Analytics entirely by installing Google's browser add-on, by using a browser or extension that blocks analytics scripts, or by enabling a tracking protection setting in your browser. Nothing on this site stops working if you do.
Affiliate links and cookies
Links to retailers on this site are affiliate links. When you follow one, the retailer or its affiliate network typically sets a cookie in your browser so a subsequent purchase can be attributed to us. Those cookies are set by Amazon and by Impact on behalf of Backcountry, not by us, and they are governed by those companies' own privacy policies. We receive commission reports that are aggregate and do not identify you.
You can block or clear these cookies in your browser at any time. Full detail on the commercial arrangement is on the affiliate disclosure.
The contact form
The contact form is handled by FormSubmit, which forwards the message to our inbox. It collects the name, email address and message you type, plus whatever your browser sends with any web request. We use it only to reply to you. We do not add contact form submissions to any mailing list.
The email capture
The "email me this kit" boxes on the build guides post to a Google Form, which records your email address and which page you submitted from. The page identifier exists so we can see which guides are actually useful, not to profile you. We use the address to send you the information you asked for and occasional related updates, and every email includes an unsubscribe link. We do not sell or rent the list.
Third parties we rely on
- Google Analytics, for aggregate usage measurement.
- Google Fonts, which serves the typefaces this site uses and receives a request from your browser to do so.
- Google Forms, for the email capture.
- FormSubmit, for the contact form.
- Amazon Associates and Impact (for Backcountry), for affiliate attribution.
- Our hosting provider, which keeps standard server logs.
Each of these has its own privacy policy governing what it does with data it receives. We do not control those policies.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has submitted information through a form here, contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you, and to object to certain processing. In practice the only personal information we hold is what you typed into a form. To exercise any of these rights, contact us and we will act on it.
Do Not Track
There is no consistent industry standard for responding to Do Not Track browser signals, so this site does not respond to them differently. The opt-out routes described above work regardless.
Changes
